Hi Echo! First of all very belated congrats for your son (I've become shy :P). Erm... we used to be friendly while yoursite.nu members.

Re: rounded corners - try http://snarkforums.com/index.php?topic=9527.msg287139#msg287139
Tested it in FF, Chrome, Opera, IE8 - 6. Though in IE 6 the bottom corners might need some adjusting.

Then again, as of late, I ditched the CSS only way, and do it with JS, as it's much faster (time-wise).

P.S. Love the layout. Missed seeing your graphics.

Don't worry, ie8 is not that terrible ;) There is less of a stigma to it compared to say.. ie6. Anyway! Using conditional comments is not terrible but in my experience you might as well just use images for all browsers - since you're making and implementing them anyway. Maybe that's just the time management fiend in me talking!

^ Yeah, I expected them to have a lot more but I could only find that one and when I asked that was the only one they showed me or knew by name. They said they'd all be in that area, where I'd already looked 3 times figuring I was being a douche : P I didn't have time to find someone else, we were in a rush. I love whole foods though anyway- they are the only place that carries so many delicious ice-cream alternatives.

I could probably give up meat without caring as long as I found a replacement protein source I used consistently. I haven't been using any fakes until yesterday but some (like the black bean burgers) just look so good. Although lately I've been mixing a southwest seasoning pack in with olive oil and cooking up chopped ny strip steaks in it and it's freakin' fantastic- it gives it this indian/mediterranean taste. The veggies don't quite pick it up like the steak.

I would love it if you'd send me info on how you make your own : ) I was looking into that yesterday, reading about seitan, because while I do want to largely eliminate meat I also don't want to be adding tons of icky bonding agents and preservatives. Though they're in the meat products as well, so may as well make SOME switch.

I so far haven't found much variety here at all. But it's not easy shopping for specialty items with so many people in tow : (

Whole Foods has TONS of veg options. Who told you they only have Tofurky? I'm not a fan of the stuff myself, but I do visit WF at least twice a month. I can assure you they have more than Tofurky.

You can make your own veggie meat you know. It's called seitan. It's basically flour and water. There's so much you can do with it. Tofu is another great meat alternative. I was put off at first, but once you get the hang of it and know how to properly cook it, it can save you. I'm not too big on the faux meats. My blog might not reflect that though. But it's true. I just like to experiment and try new things out. There are a few products that I love though and don't mind eating from time to time.

If you do make it to WF, look for a product called Gardein. Their frozen line is heaven. I personally think it's great for a person who is transitioning into a veg lifestyle. Or just someone who likes meat, but doesn't necessarily like eating it.

As for the black bean burgers, the MSF version is pretty good. However I can give you a recipe that's MUCH better. Quick and easy. Not to mention homemade with no extra added crap. You can easily pronounce everything in it. :)

As for the sausage, there are two that I love. Gimme Lean Sausage and Match Meat Italian or Breakfast sausage. It's a little harder finding the Match depending on area, but Gimme Lean is easily found in just about any store. It's usually kept in produce and comes in a tube. Sounds icky, but it's good. Trust me.

For bacon I prefer the Light Life Fakin' Bacon. Yum yum!

Yeah, I feel for you about that. I liked to watch all my baby's heartbeats on the computer though. I think i have a "god" complex when it comes to authority like cops and doctors. But you should definitely birth YOUR way (next time or whatever). Just plan for anything that may go wrong but insist on what you want. I definitely admire those mothers who do.

Sigh?

I keep forgetting that, at least in the version I’m using, you can’t see rounded CSS corners in Internet Explorer. Please do not tell me to switch browsers, I have at least three browsers on my computer, I actually prefer IE the last two years. I know how SLOmg awful it is to everyone who is ‘intelligent’, leave it alone.

Would it be outrageous if when designing a CSS template I used the **// ie thing to use images specifically for IE? Since most of the rest of the world will be able to see the rounded corners? It would affect load time for IE, but… oh well?

I could just go with 90 degree corners, I know, but that’s not what I DESIGNED! And we all know that Echoia don’t play. We also know that Echoia -usually- goes a little graphics-heavy. I wasn’t going to, I was just going to do rounded corners with CSS because for some reason I was working in FireFox … but then remembered they don’t come up in IE (v 8).

Other solutions?

I really thoroughly detest when I am trying to take a picture of someone, they notice and decide to ‘pose’. If I am taking a picture of you- it is probably because the capture I am seeking is beautiful. You have your hand on your cheek in a perfect way, or your back is arched in dramatic fashion, but whatever it is, it has caught my eye and made me set my camera on you.

Please don’t mess that up by making a face, shifting or trying to ‘make’ a picture you think will look good- you’re not looking at you.

This has ruined many, many photographs I’ve tried to take. I know that this is largely something people do to make themselves feel more comfortable in front of the camera- but most people like the pictures I take of them. Don’t tell me that I take good pictures, and that ‘No one ever makes me look good- you make me look good!’ and then flinch and twitch and try to be Cindy Crawford (however irrelevant she is now) when the camera is on you.

Gah.

And sometimes it’s not about you, either- if I’m trying to take a picture of someone else, please do not inject yourself into the mix! We did not ask for you in that photo, it’s not made for you.

The end.

Look- I know everyone wants a ’superfamous’ blog and wants the most comments evar, and everyone wants to do what everyone else is doing and be the first to get on a new trend, but listen-

twice in the last week I have tried to comment on blogs (which I don’t do very often, by the way, so that is about 50% of the commenting for the week), typed up my replies and then found… that I couldn’t submt them.

For both blogs there were so many damn options… the first comment wouldn’t go through because I couldn’t figure out which ‘type’ of comment I was leaving. It kept getting disqualified (no i’m not joking). After three tries I gave up, and will likely not visit the site again. It’s in my RSS reader, but I’d never tried commenting before (it’s hard to do with a baby sleeping on your arms- right now he’s shifted to sleeping on my chest) The second one? To the best of my knowledge, there was no submit button. Imagine! There were 1,000 other buttons leading to this site for tracking comments and this site for discussing the blog post but there was no dang’ol ‘Submit’ input button. WTF, internet?!

With about 7 miles left to hit 100 by Valentine’s day I’m feeling pretty good- nothing’s going to stop me that doesn’t REALLY stop me. If I break a leg or something and don’t finish I’m not going to feel badly about not finishing. It’s just the way it is!

On the other side of my resolutions, food is still a problem for me. Mostly because someone I love dearly keeps bringing in bad things in large quantities, and when you only have one hand most of the day to work with it’s much, much easier to eat cookies than to make a meal.

Yesterday we did a little bit of grocery shopping and I decided to grab some things to help me make it through the week a little more healthfully- someone else bought more Oreos (gotta love ‘im). After picking out a couple of low fat Asian dinners to put in the freezer for when I can’t make anything else for my lunch we checked out the meat-alternatives. This hasn’t been a very productive hunt so far, and last time I turned down the selection at Wal-Mart to go to Whole Foods they looked at me like I was crazy and said they only carried ToFurkey (yuck). I’ve also grabbed Bocca at one of their locations (didn’t see it there- only the ToFurkey) and didn’t like it (their product tasted fine as a veggie- it just in no way served as any sort of meat alternative… tasted like squash!)

Wal-Mart too only had two options- Bocca and MorningStar. Not much to choose from in either, so I grabbed a couple of MorningStar options. The one I ate this morning? Original Chick Patties. And you know what? It tasted exactly like the same products made of meat- with one big exception: no hard bits to fear.

The big problem I have with the similar patties made of ‘real’ chicken is that you don’t know what the heck is in there. I’ve eaten them occasionally over the years because the taste is alright, but there’s this horrible feeling of ‘What am I DOING to myself?’ I know that it’s still not great and perfect, there are lots of things in there I’d rather not be putting in my body, but it does feel better than worrying I’m eating powdered bones and makes me feel better about it as an occasional treat.

Honestly, it was good enough to make me look forward to the ’sausage-crumbles’ lasagna that I have and want to try out their ‘bacon’. I also want to try out the Spicy Black Bean Veggie Burgers.

I wonder if it would fool the dogs… .

Who told you they only have Tofurky? I’m not a fan of the stuff myself, but I do visit WF at least twice a month. I can assure you they have more than Tofurky.

You can make your own veggie meat you know. It’s called seitan. It’s basically flour and water. There’s so much you can do with it. Tofu is another great meat alternative. I was put off at first, but once you get the hang of it and know how to properly cook it, it can save you. I’m not too big on the faux meats. My blog might not reflect that though. But it’s true. I just like to experiment and try new things out. There are a few products that I love though and don’t mind eating from time to time.

If you do make it to WF, look for a product called Gardein. Their frozen line is heaven. I personally think it’s great for a person who is transitioning into a veg lifestyle. Or just someone who likes meat, but doesn’t necessarily like eating it.

As for the black bean burgers, the MSF version is pretty good. However I can give you a recipe that’s MUCH better. Quick and easy. Not to mention homemade with no extra added crap. You can easily pronounce everything in it.

As for the sausage, there are two that I love. Gimme Lean Sausage and Match Meat Italian or Breakfast sausage. It’s a little harder finding the Match depending on area, but Gimme Lean is easily found in just about any store. It’s usually kept in produce and comes in a tube. Sounds icky, but it’s good. Trust me.

For bacon I prefer the Light Life Fakin’ Bacon. Yum yum!

They said they’d all be in that area, where I’d already looked 3 times figuring I was being a douche : P I didn’t have time to find someone else, we were in a rush. I love whole foods though anyway- they are the only place that carries so many delicious ice-cream alternatives.

I could probably give up meat without caring as long as I found a replacement protein source I used consistently. I haven’t been using any fakes until yesterday but some (like the black bean burgers) just look so good. Although lately I’ve been mixing a southwest seasoning pack in with olive oil and cooking up chopped ny strip steaks in it and it’s freakin’ fantastic- it gives it this indian/mediterranean taste. The veggies don’t quite pick it up like the steak.

I would love it if you’d send me info on how you make your own : ) I was looking into that yesterday, reading about seitan, because while I do want to largely eliminate meat I also don’t want to be adding tons of icky bonding agents and preservatives. Though they’re in the meat products as well, so may as well make SOME switch.

I so far haven’t found much variety here at all. But it’s not easy shopping for specialty items with so many people in tow : (

Planned inductions are obviously not “natural” births because they were orchestrated, set-up, and planned. Emergency inductions fall under the category of natural more so, but still…pitocen is a chemical version of a natural chemical the body makes to induce labor. Unnatural. Monitors are just run of the mill for hospitals obviously, although I have heard recently that a lot of women flat out refuse them because they want to go more “naturally”. Doesn’t make any sense to me because they are for the baby’s welfare firstly and the mother’s too. Since I have had only 3 induced births- 1 emergency and 2 planned inductions, I don’t know what it’s like to really go into labor on my own. I’ve heard that Pitocen and chemically induced labor is MUCH WORSE than just plain old natural have it on the kitchen floor labor, but I don’t really know that for myself. I just know it was hell. All 3 times. Thank someone for Pain Meds! ( oh yeah, and it’s ridiculous to say you’re going natural just because you refuse pain meds but do everything else.)

I don’t know if I would go with fetal monitoring if I ever was pregnant again. I think doctors might be less inclined to throw so many curveballs at women if they didn’t have a monitor strapped to their bellies. Especially for someone like me- my body hated the drugs they gave me and it was a disaster. Yes, monitor saved baby from dying due to the drugs, but knowing that in future pregnancies (if there ever are any) a doctor would probably not medicate me if I refused monitors as well (because I would certainly refuse the drugs, and if I say ‘you’re not putting monitors on either’ they might feel less god-like). Constant fetal monitoring can definitely get in the way of laboring well and having your baby naturally, because they (at least my monitor) restrict movement.

Fetal monitoring gets to me because it seems to play into the mindset of, ‘We can throw whatever we want in whatever doses we want because if something goes wrong, we’ll just do a c-section.’

I liked to watch all my baby’s heartbeats on the computer though. I think i have a “god” complex when it comes to authority like cops and doctors. But you should definitely birth YOUR way (next time or whatever). Just plan for anything that may go wrong but insist on what you want. I definitely admire those mothers who do.

This site is largely where I experiment. It should hopefully change a lot as I continue to learn and make new art.

Fitness

After my son was delivered sugircally last year I felt helplessly weak. It's one thing to neglect yourself and know you can get back in shape when you want to- it's a different feeling to have your abdominal muscles cut and no longer know what you're capable of!

With persistent cramping in my legs I began with the first literal steps to getting back in shape- I began walking 100 miles. I reached 99.99 miles on February 09, 2010 and ceremoniously 'completed' my 100 miles with Kevin and our son on Valentine's Day.

I'm not sure what challenges I'm going to set in front of myself next, but this section will keep you updated!
